About Autism

The following is my summery.
Carly was diagnosed autism when she was a baby. She could not speak a work or connect to the outside of the world in anyway, so everyone thought.
However, when she became 11yrs old, she used a computer for the first time through the therapy, she suddenly typed 'Hurt, Help'
Until this moment, she was believed that she could not even type but knew spells.
So this was a big surprise not only for her parents but her therapists.

Wonderful part was, like chibilits mention in her blog, that her parents although their Carly diagnosed autism never ever give up her and carry on giving her therapy, reading her books.
Her therapists recommended them to take her to the group home because it was very difficult
but they could not do it. They saw some intelligence in her eyes.

Now after her training she is communicating with other people through the internet.
She wrote...
'You don't know what it feels like to be me, when you can't sit still because your legs feel iike they are on fire, or it feels like a hundred ants are crawling up your arms'
In the program there was lots of scenes she is banging her arm to the sofa or hitting her own head.
She knows such behavior is not good but she cannot help it. If she stops it, she cannot cope with the feeling fire in her legs and full of ants on her arms.

One more interesting thing for me is that her parents' fear.
They horrified when they noticed Carly's ability because for years they had spoken in front of her as if she was not there.
Carly wrote to her father.
'Dear dad, I love you when you read to me. And I love that you believe in me. I know I am not the easiest kid in the world. However you are always there for me, holding my hands and picking me up. I love you.'

I am wondering how I have behaved in front of autistic children...
